Frequently Asked Questions
Who do you typically work with?
I work with people who want to feel more connected in their relationships, make peace with the past, or better understand and embrace who they are. Many of my clients are healing from trauma, coping through anxiety or depression, exploring their sexuality or identity, or moving through major life transitions. I often work with those in healing professions (therapists, healthcare workers, etc.), couples exploring ethical non-monogamy or recovering from infidelity, young adults considering identity, new parents, and individuals navigating challenging family dynamics. My approach is affirming, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-inclusive.
What approaches do you use in therapy?
My work blends evidence-based modalities with a relational, affirming approach. I’m trained in Gottman Methods, Emotionally Focused Therapy, parts work, somatic & mindfulness interventions and Integrative Sex & Couples Therapy. These approaches help clients improve communication, deepen connection, and heal from past experiences.
Do you accept insurance?
No, I am currently an out-of-network provider. If you have out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible to receive partial or full reimbursement for session fees. I am happy to provide superbills for all clients using out-of-network benefits.
How do I know if we’re a good fit?
Finding a therapist you feel safe and comfortable with is the most important first step. I offer a free 15-minute consultation call to answer your questions, learn more about your goals, and explore whether my approach feels like a good fit for what you’re looking for.
What happens in the first session?
The intake assessment is the first session that will be focused on getting to know one another and establishing a treatment plan. During this session, we’ll talk about your current concerns, goals, and any relevant background or life experiences that shape our work together. It’s also a chance for you to ask questions, get a feel for my approach, and decide whether we’re a good fit. By the end of the assessment, we’ll outline next steps that support your goals for therapy.
Do you provide letters for gender-affirming care?
Yes. I am able to provide gender-affirming care assessments and documentation to support medical transition and other affirming needs. My approach to assessments is affirming, holistic, and aligned with WPATH Standards of Care.
Good Faith Estimate (No Surprises Act)
As of January 1, 2022, all healthcare providers are required by the No Surprises Act to provide a Good Faith Estimate of costs to clients who are not using insurance. This helps you know, in advance, what therapy may cost.
What this means for you:
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected costs of therapy services.
Your estimate will be provided in writing before your first session and can be updated if your treatment plan changes.
The estimate is based on my standard session fees and the services you choose.
Why I Do Not Accept Insurance
At Rooted Willow Wellness, I have chosen not to accept commercial insurance at this time. I understand this can be a barrier, so I want to share the reasons behind this decision.
Confidentiality & Privacy
Insurance companies require detailed information about your mental health, including diagnoses and session notes, in order to approve and pay for therapy. By not working directly with insurance, your therapy remains fully private and confidential. This is particularly important for marginalized populations who can be at increased risk of discrimination.Flexibility in Care
Insurance often limits the type of therapy, number of sessions, and even the length of treatment. By working outside of insurance, we can focus on your unique needs, set our own goals, and move at a pace that feels right for you, without outside restrictions or mandates.Freedom of Choice in Services
The relationship services I specialize in providing such as couples therapy, intensives, retreats are often not covered by insurance at all. By keeping my practice private pay, I can offer the full spectrum of services without limitations.Reducing Administrative Burden
Insurance billing requires significant time, resources, and staff to manage denials, resubmissions, and approvals. By simplifying my practice, I can devote more of my energy to providing high-quality care to clients instead of paperwork.Quality of Care
Without the restrictions and pressures of insurance, I am able to invest more deeply in professional trainings, personalized services, and creating an environment that prioritizes your holistic healing and growth. To support accessibility, I can provide sliding scale services and will gladly offer superbills (receipts with necessary codes) that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
